South Jersey & the Shore Golf Courses & Tee Times

South Jersey and the Shore is where a lot of American golf history happened. Atlantic City Country Club in Northfield opened in 1898, and the club says the word "birdie" was first used there in December 1903. Its pro John J. McDermott became the first American to win the U.S. Open in 1911. Up the road in Galloway, Sam Snead won the 1942 PGA Championship at Seaview for his first major. Pine Valley in Camden County is the most famous course in the region, but it is private and you only play it with a member. The public golf here runs from county courses with resident cards to old seaside links like Brigantine, built in 1927.

Ocean County Parks and Recreation runs two courses: Atlantis in Little Egg Harbor, a par-72 George Fazio design, and Forge Pond in Brick, a par-60 executive course in a 300-acre conservation area. A 2026 Resident Golf ID Card costs $30 with proof of county residency and is good for a year. Nonresidents can buy a $100 card that gets them the resident rate. In Atlantic County, the county owns John F. Gaffney Green Tree in Egg Harbor Township and the Atlantic County Improvement Authority runs it. Its resident ID card is $30, $25 to renew, and runs March 16 to March 15. The City of Brigantine has owned Brigantine Golf Links since 2002 and took over running it directly in 2026.

Eagle Ridge Golf Club

18 holes · par 72 · 6,607 yards

Built in the gravel pit that fed the Garden State Parkway, so you get bluffs, cliffs and real elevation change. The Links nine sits on an old landfill.

Lakewood Country Club

18 holes · par 72 · 6,589 yards

Walter Travis rebuilt it in 1920 on old farmland, cutting back-nine holes out of forest. Hosted the 1922 Met Amateur, and the club dates to 1896.

Seaview Golf Club - Bay Course

18 holes · par 71 · 6,731 yards

Hugh Wilson and Donald Ross built it in 1914: 6,300 yards of pot bunkers and small, undulating greens by the bay. Home of the ShopRite LPGA Classic.

Seaview Golf Club - Pines Course

18 holes · par 71 · 6,711 yards

Flynn and Toomey's woodland course, with doglegs, elevation change and big sloping greens. Snead chipped in from 60 feet on the 16th to win the 1942 PGA.

Shore Gate Golf Club

18 holes · par 72 · 7,227 yards

The 9th is why regulars come back: 648 yards from the tips to a narrow green behind a lake. Then you cross the bridge to The Kingdom, holes 13 to 15.

Twisted Dune Golf Club

18 holes · par 72 · 7,283 yards

Archie Struthers' only course: an old horse farm pushed into fescue-topped dunes that wall off each hole, so you rarely see another group.

Why tee times in South Jersey & the Shore are hard to get

Golf in South Jersey & the Shore follows the seasons: spring openers and fall weekends are the busiest stretches, and summer mornings fill before afternoons.

Each course releases its tee times on its own schedule, commonly a week or two out, with residents of town and county courses often booking first. Leagues, outings and members claim chunks of the sheet in advance, and whatever prime weekend times are left tend to go on release day.

When tee time cancellations happen

A full tee sheet rarely stays full. Many courses let you cancel without a fee up to 24 or 48 hours before your time, so spots tend to reappear in the last couple of days. A bad forecast shakes more loose, and a foursome that drops to three opens a single. None of it is announced. The time just shows up again on the booking page, and whoever looks first gets it.

Doing it by hand? Here's what works.

  1. Know the booking window. Find out how many days ahead each course releases times, and whether residents get an earlier window. Be ready the morning it opens.
  2. Look again 24 to 48 hours out. That's when most cancellation deadlines pass and spots come back.
  3. Be flexible on group size. Singles and twosomes fit into gaps a foursome can't.
  4. Try twilight and weekday afternoons. They're the last to fill and often cheaper.
  5. Keep a quicker course in your back pocket. Nine-hole and executive courses are easier to get on and play faster. Around here that includes Big Little 9, Forge Pond Golf Course and Heritage Links Golf Club.
