Big Little 9

Fred Langford, whose waterslides went up on six continents, built the lake-wall forms himself on this par-3 course of ponds and waterfalls. BYOB welcome.

About Big Little 9

This is a par-3 course with a designer's fingerprints on it, literally. Fred Langford grew up in Cape May County, trained as an architect at Penn, and did concrete formwork for Louis Kahn before his Surf Coaster company built waterslides on six continents. The course, originally called Laguna Oaks, was his last passion project, and he designed and built the forms for the concrete retaining walls around the lakes himself. After he died in 2022, the Morey family bought it; Wilbert Morey had been his childhood friend and first business partner.

It spreads over 89 acres of meadow, willow oaks, ponds and waterfalls, with lakes, waste areas and marsh to carry, and a round takes about 90 minutes. It's relaxed on purpose: shoes are optional and BYOB is welcome. There's a practice green, a practice bunker and a hitting net, a US Kids Golf teaching program, a small food stand called Cup of Bliss on the Green, plus a fire pit, bocce and corn hole.

It's one of 3 courses in Cape May Court House on Yoink, and the closest alternative is Avalon Golf Club, about 4 miles away — handy when your first choice is booked solid.
