About Shore Gate Golf Club
Shore Gate opened in 2002 and is carved out of the woods, so each group feels like it has the place to itself. It's a par 72 that stretches to 7,227 yards from the black tees, with five sets of tees, and the fairways roll. The sand is the thing you remember: a bunker on the 4th that runs about 50 yards and gets 13 feet deep, 11 bunkers and waste areas around the downhill par-3 8th, and a green on 12 with water or sand on three sides.
The course itself says the 9th is the hole that brings people back. It's a par 5 of up to 648 yards that wants a left-to-right tee shot, and it finishes at a narrow green about 55 yards deep with a lake in front and three big bunkers. Mind the wind; into it, the hole gets even longer. Earlier, the 6th is named Riptide for the way its fairway is shaped. After 12 you cross a bridge to The Kingdom, holes 13 through 15, where lakes, waste areas and an environmentally protected area crowd the holes.
It sits in Ocean View, a short drive from Sea Isle City, and it's a public course that also sells memberships and runs lessons and a driving range.
It's one of 30 courses Yoink watches in the South Jersey & the Shore area, and the closest alternative is Heritage Links Golf Club, about 3 miles away — handy when your first choice is booked solid.
