About Mays XII Golf Club

Mays XII is the old Mays Landing Country Club, reborn as a 12-hole course. Leo Fraser and partners built the original, Sam Snead and Tony Lema played in its grand opening, and for years locals called it "The Best Birdie for the Buck." Frank Ruocco, who also owns Greate Bay, bought the shuttered property in 2023. Townhomes are planned on part of the land, and he told Shore Local it wasn't possible to keep the full 18, so the course became 12 holes. It was set to open on July 11, 2026.

Don't expect a pitch-and-putt. From the black tees the 11th is a 535-yard par 5, the 2nd is 505, and the 10th is a 206-yard par 3. There are four sets of tees. The ratings are USGA 18-hole numbers (68.2 and 124 from the blacks), and a round posts as a 12-hole partial round.

The idea is a shorter, looser round with things to do after it: a 1,200-square-foot putting green, bocce, ping pong, fire pits and live music, plus LaScala's at Mays XII for pizza and Italian food.
