About Forge Pond Golf Course
This is Ocean County's executive course, and don't let par 60 fool you. Hal Purdy designed it, and it's under 4,000 yards, but the county describes real elevation change, undulating fairways and greens, sculpted bunkers and narrow, tree-lined fairways. The superintendent's line to the local paper in 2022 was that executive means shorter, not easier. The hole the county singles out is the eighth, an uphill par 3.
The course takes only 50 to 60 acres of a 300-acre county parcel in the Metedeconk watershed, and it's buffered by wetlands and forest, so the cart paths wind through wild patches between holes. Three linked irrigation ponds, fed by wells, sit on the property. In 2022 the county was rebuilding its bunkers with new drainage and cutting them from 33 to 28.
Brick Township handed the land to the county in 1985, construction started in 1988, and it opened in 1990. It's busy: about 31,000 rounds in 2021. It stays open year-round when the weather allows, and it hosts night golf tournaments played with glow-in-the-dark balls.
It's one of 30 courses Yoink watches in the South Jersey & the Shore area, and the closest alternative is Eagle Ridge Golf Club, about 5 miles away — handy when your first choice is booked solid.
