About Howell Park Golf Course

Howell Park is the Monmouth County Park System's big regulation course: par 72 and 6,964 yards from the blue tees, with bentgrass fairways and greens that slope and run fast. The county pitches it as a private-club kind of round at a public course, and the rustic setting is a big part of that. Spend some time on the large practice green before you go out, and there's a warm-up range too.

The county's scorecard credits the design to Francis Duane. In 2023 the Park System brought in architect Mark Mungeam to rebuild the entire green complex on the 12th and add drainage under the 4th and 10th greens, because some greens drained poorly or were too steep for enough hole locations. The county also runs beginner and intermediate clinics here. One practical note: the entrance is on Preventorium Road next to Howell High School, not on Squankum-Yellowbrook Road where the mailing address is.
