About Seaview Golf Club - Pines Course
The Pines is the inland half of Seaview, the hotel and golf resort on 670 acres in Galloway, just up Route 9 from Atlantic City. Where the Bay Course is open and seaside, the Pines winds through the South Jersey woods, with elevation changes, plenty of doglegs, large bunkers and big, sloping greens. The blue tees rate 72.4 for men, and the women's rating from the whites is 75.7 with a 136 slope.
The resort dates from 1914, when utility magnate Clarence Geist founded the Seaview Country Club. William Flynn and Howard Toomey's nine opened in 1929. According to Wikipedia, Flynn disciple William Gordon added a second nine in 1957, and Al Janis designed three replacement holes in 1990 when a practice area went in. Marriott bought the club in 1984 and opened it to the public as a resort.
In 1942 Seaview hosted the PGA, then a match-play event, on a composite course of the Bay's front nine and Flynn's nine. The course says the 16th on the Pines is where Sam Snead holed a 60-foot chip to close out Jim Turnesa 2 and 1 for his first major.
