Orlando Golf Courses & Tee Times

Orlando golf is mostly theme-park and resort golf, but it has old public roots. Dubsdread opened to the public on December 7, 1924, and the City of Orlando has owned it since 1978. Ben Hogan won the Orlando Open there in 1945. Walt Disney World opened its golf in 1971 and hosted a PGA Tour stop every year until 2012; Jack Nicklaus won the first three and Tiger Woods won two. Arnold Palmer's Bay Hill hosts the Arnold Palmer Invitational each March, but it is private, open only to members and Lodge guests.

Good weekend tee times in Orlando go fast, and the ones that come back later (cancellations, groups that shrink) aren't announced. Yoink watches the tee sheets at 144 public courses here, from The Villages, Davenport, Clermont, Kissimmee and Winter Haven, and tells you the moment a time you want opens up.

The longest layout here is Orange County National — Crooked Cat at 7,493 yards; there are 7 nine-hole courses; there are 5 executive or par-3 courses for a quicker round.

Who runs public golf in Orlando

Two cities run the municipal golf here. Orlando owns Dubsdread, an 18-hole course rebuilt in 2007-08 that the course calls the oldest public layout in Central Florida. Winter Park runs two: the Winter Park Golf Course, a 2,480-yard par-35 nine from 1914 that was the first Florida course on the National Register of Historic Places, and Winter Park Pines, an 18-hole par 70 from 1968. Winter Park sells annual memberships with separate resident and non-resident prices. Sanford has owned Mayfair since 1924. Most of the rest is daily-fee and resort golf: Disney's four courses, Orange County National in Winter Garden, and El Campeon at Mission Inn in Howey-in-the-Hills.

Booking tee times in Orlando: the local rules

At the Winter Park nine the public books up to three days out and members seven; Winter Park Pines annual pass holders get 14 days. Winter Park prices by season, with one rate from October through April and another from May through September. Disney recommends reservations, and you have to cancel or trim your group at least 24 hours ahead. Dubsdread takes bookings on its own site and app, but we did not find its booking window.

Why tee times in Orlando are hard to get

Golf in Orlando peaks in winter, when seasonal residents and visitors arrive. From roughly November through April, weekend mornings are the hardest times on the sheet to get, and even weekdays fill up.

Most public courses open their tee sheet a set number of days ahead, often 7 to 14, and many municipal courses give residents or card holders an earlier window. The best weekend-morning times usually go the day they're released. Leagues and outings take blocks of the sheet before the public ever sees them.

When tee time cancellations happen

A full tee sheet rarely stays full. Many courses let you cancel without a fee up to 24 or 48 hours before your time, so spots tend to reappear in the last couple of days. A bad forecast shakes more loose, and a foursome that drops to three opens a single. None of it is announced. The time just shows up again on the booking page, and whoever looks first gets it.

Doing it by hand? Here's what works.

  1. Know the booking window. Find out how many days ahead each course releases times, and whether residents get an earlier window. Be ready the morning it opens.
  2. Look again 24 to 48 hours out. That's when most cancellation deadlines pass and spots come back.
  3. Be flexible on group size. Singles and twosomes fit into gaps a foursome can't.
  4. Try twilight and weekday afternoons. They're the last to fill and often cheaper.
  5. Keep a quicker course in your back pocket. Nine-hole and executive courses are easier to get on and play faster. Around here that includes Big Cypress Golf Club: North Executive, Crane Lakes Golf and Country Club and Cypress Greens.
