South Florida Golf Courses & Tee Times

South Florida golf started with the land booms of the 1920s. Carl Fisher opened the Bay Shore course on Miami Beach in January 1923, Willie Park's layout that is now Miami Beach Golf Club. Miami Springs opened the same year as the Miami-Hialeah course and held the Miami Open from 1925 to 1955; Arnold Palmer made his first start as a pro there in 1954. Bobby Jones opened the Biltmore links in Coral Gables in 1926. Many of these old courses are city-owned today and sit on the state's Florida Historic Golf Trail. The best-known tournament course is the Blue Monster at Doral, a 1962 Dick Wilson design that hosted the Doral Open and the WGC-Cadillac Championship, and that the PGA Tour said in 2025 it would return to in 2026.

Good weekend tee times in South Florida go fast, and the ones that come back later (cancellations, groups that shrink) aren't announced. Yoink watches the tee sheets at 67 public courses here, from Miami, Boca Raton, Lake Worth Beach, Delray Beach and Fort Lauderdale, and tells you the moment a time you want opens up.

The longest layout here is Crandon Golf at Key Biscayne at 7,180 yards; there are 3 nine-hole courses; there are 5 executive or par-3 courses for a quicker round.

Miami-Dade County runs four 18-hole courses and two nines: Crandon on Key Biscayne, Palmetto, Country Club of Miami (temporarily closed), and the nine-hole Greynolds and Briar Bay. Its Patron Card costs $129 a year for county residents and $199 for everyone else, with a $99 Master's card for golfers 70 and up. Palm Beach County runs Okeeheelee, Osprey Point, Park Ridge, Southwinds and the John Prince Golf Learning Center. Why tee times in South Florida are hard to get

Golf in South Florida peaks in winter, when seasonal residents and visitors arrive. From roughly November through April, weekend mornings are the hardest times on the sheet to get, and even weekdays fill up.

Most public courses open their tee sheet a set number of days ahead, often 7 to 14, and many municipal courses give residents or card holders an earlier window. The best weekend-morning times usually go the day they're released. Leagues and outings take blocks of the sheet before the public ever sees them.

When tee time cancellations happen

A full tee sheet rarely stays full. Many courses let you cancel without a fee up to 24 or 48 hours before your time, so spots tend to reappear in the last couple of days. A bad forecast shakes more loose, and a foursome that drops to three opens a single. None of it is announced. The time just shows up again on the booking page, and whoever looks first gets it.

Doing it by hand? Here's what works.

  1. Know the booking window. Find out how many days ahead each course releases times, and whether residents get an earlier window. Be ready the morning it opens.
  2. Look again 24 to 48 hours out. That's when most cancellation deadlines pass and spots come back.
  3. Be flexible on group size. Singles and twosomes fit into gaps a foursome can't.
  4. Try twilight and weekday afternoons. They're the last to fill and often cheaper.
  5. Keep a quicker course in your back pocket. Nine-hole and executive courses are easier to get on and play faster. Around here that includes Boca Delray Executive Golf & Country Club, Boca Dunes Executive Golf Course and City of Lauderhill Golf Course.
