About Miami Beach Golf Club
This is the old Bayshore course, Miami Beach's own, a few blocks off the bay on Alton Road. It's 18 holes, par 72 and 6,813 yards from the back, and it's dead flat: the map survey puts the high point at about 7 feet. The water is what you play around. The survey finds water near 16 of the 18 holes, five shots that carry it and about 73 bunkers, so on a breezy day the lakes do the work the hills can't. Course character from OpenStreetMap contributors' survey data.
Carl Fisher built it as part of his Alton Beach subdivision, meant to pull wealthy winter residents down from New York, Indianapolis and Detroit, and brought in Willie Park to lay it out. It opened on January 10, 1923. In World War II the Army rented it for $1 a year and ran soldiers through the palms with smoke grenades. In 1944 Chicago investors wanted it for 650 homes; the neighbors pushed back, and the city bought the land in the 1940s to keep it as golf.
Fisher's Mediterranean clubhouse came down in 1954. In 2002 the city paid for a $10 million rebuild by Arthur Hills/Steve Forrest and Associates: every blade of grass and most of the trees came out, the lakes were drained and reshaped, the bunkers and mounds were resculpted, and a new clubhouse went up. Since 2011 it has co-hosted the South Beach International Amateur with Normandy Shores the week before Christmas; Kelly Kraft won the first one, and Cole Hammer (2020) and Luke Clanton (2022) are on the winners' list. There's also a Jim McLean Golf School on site.

What it's like to play Miami Beach Golf Club
Water comes into play on 16 of 18 holes, and you carry it on 5 of them. Keep the ball in front of you. It's a sand-heavy layout, with about 73 bunkers. 11 of the 18 holes bend, most of them to the right, which favors a fade, so position off the tee matters more than length.
