Jacksonville Golf Courses & Tee Times

Jacksonville's first city course was Brentwood, a Donald Ross design that opened in November 1923 with 50-cent green fees. It hosted the 1930 U.S. Public Links, the PGA Tour's Jacksonville Open in the 1940s (Sam Snead won twice) and the first LPGA event of 1952. In 1959, ordered to integrate, the city closed and sold its two courses instead. Brentwood came back as a nine-hole First Tee course in 2000. In Ponte Vedra Beach, TPC Sawgrass opened in 1980 as the first Tournament Players Club, and the Stadium Course has held THE PLAYERS since 1982. The PGA Tour's headquarters is there, and World Golf Village near St. Augustine was built around the World Golf Hall of Fame, which moved back to Pinehurst in 2023.

Good weekend tee times in Jacksonville go fast, and the ones that come back later (cancellations, groups that shrink) aren't announced. Yoink watches the tee sheets at 35 public courses here, from Palm Coast, Fernandina Beach, St. Augustine, Fleming Island and St Augustine, and tells you the moment a time you want opens up.

The longest layout here is World Golf Village - King & Bear at 7,279 yards; there are 3 nine-hole courses.

Who runs public golf in Jacksonville

The City of Jacksonville's main public course is Bent Creek, a Bobby Weed design with Mark McCumber from 1989, par 71 and 6,620 yards, run for the city by a management company. Brentwood, a city park, is a nine-hole par 34 that has been home to First Tee since 2001. TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach says the Stadium Course is open to anyone who books, and Dye's Valley (1987) is next door. World Golf Village has two resort courses, the King & Bear (Palmer and Nicklaus) and the Slammer & Squire (Snead and Sarazen). Across the Georgia line, the state's Jekyll Island Authority runs three 18-hole courses open to the public, including Great Dunes, a restoration of Walter Travis' 1927 course.

Why tee times in Jacksonville are hard to get

Golf in Jacksonville peaks in winter, when seasonal residents and visitors arrive. From roughly November through April, weekend mornings are the hardest times on the sheet to get, and even weekdays fill up.

Most public courses open their tee sheet a set number of days ahead, often 7 to 14, and many municipal courses give residents or card holders an earlier window. The best weekend-morning times usually go the day they're released. Leagues and outings take blocks of the sheet before the public ever sees them.

When tee time cancellations happen

Booked-up doesn't mean gone. Plans change: groups cancel ahead of the course's cancellation deadline (often 24 to 48 hours out), players drop when the forecast turns, and a group that shrinks leaves an open spot. Those times quietly come back on the booking page, usually for minutes, not hours.

Doing it by hand? Here's what works.

  1. Know the booking window. Find out how many days ahead each course releases times, and whether residents get an earlier window. Be ready the morning it opens.
  2. Look again 24 to 48 hours out. That's when most cancellation deadlines pass and spots come back.
  3. Be flexible on group size. Singles and twosomes fit into gaps a foursome can't.
  4. Try twilight and weekday afternoons. They're the last to fill and often cheaper.
  5. Keep a quicker course in your back pocket. Nine-hole and executive courses are easier to get on and play faster. Around here that includes Blue Cypress Golf Club, Brentwood Golf Course and Palm Valley Golf Club.
