About World Golf Village - King & Bear
King & Bear is named for its designers, Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus, and it’s the only course they did together. It plays 7,279 yards from the back and 5,119 from the front, and it puts a premium on driving. Water is the story: the map survey shows it on 16 of the 18 holes, with 13 forced carries, and the lakes are edged with big coquina rocks. Palmer and Nicklaus opened it together on November 15, 2000. In 2001 they played each other here for Shell’s Wonderful World of Golf, and Palmer shot his age, a 71, to Nicklaus’s 75. Later that week they were partners in the Legends of Golf on the same course. Palmer liked the 15th enough to put it in his "Dream 18" for Sports Illustrated in 2006.
It has hosted Q-Schools for the PGA Tour and PGA Tour Champions and the Korn Ferry Tour’s King & Bear Classic in June 2020. Golf Digest named it one of the top public courses in Florida in 2015, and Golfweek put it on its Best of 2024 list of top public-access courses in the state. A $2.5 million restoration in 2024 resurfaced all 18 greens with TifEagle Bermuda and upgraded drainage and irrigation.
