Disney's Palm Golf Course

Part of the PGA Tour's Disney stop from 1971 to 2012, then rebuilt by Arnold Palmer's design team in 2013 with new greens and bunkers. Water on nine holes.

About Disney's Palm Golf Course

The Palm is one of Walt Disney World's original tournament courses, set in Florida woodland with lakes, palms and sloping greens. The PGA Tour's Disney event was played on the Palm and Magnolia courses, starting with the Walt Disney World Open Invitational in December 1971, which Jack Nicklaus won, and running through 2012. Arnold Palmer is the reason there was an event at all: in September 1971 Disney's marketing director, Sandy Quinn, knew Palmer had just moved into the neighborhood and turned to him to set one up.

Palmer's company came back in 2011 to run Disney's golf, and on June 10, 2013 Arnold Palmer Course Design started a six-month redesign of the Palm: new green complexes, reshaped tees and all-new bunkering. It reopened in December 2013, and Golf Inc. named it Renovation of the Year in the resort course category the following year.

It's a real test from the back: 6,840 yards from the Blue tees (73.3 rating, 134 slope), down to 5,200 from the Red. Water is in play on nine holes and there are 59 bunkers, so the tee you pick matters. Carts are required and included in the green fee; if you want to walk, Disney points you to the nine-hole Oak Trail instead.

It's one of 3 courses in Lake Buena Vista on Yoink, and Disney's Oak Trail Golf Course is practically next door — handy when your first choice is booked solid.

Water is in play on 10 of the 18 holes, and you carry it on 6 of them, so bring a few extra balls. A creek or river runs through the property and comes into play on 8 holes. It's about as flat as golf gets, an easy walk if you like to carry.
