About Orange County National — Crooked Cat
Crooked Cat is the open, links-looking course at Orange County National: fewer trees than Panther Lake, wider landing areas, and native heather and mounding framing the fairways. That width lets you swing freely off the tee, but the club warns about the grass bunkers scattered around seemingly at random, and because the routing twists and turns on exposed ground, the wind keeps changing direction on you. The back nine is the one the better players like, for its length. Two par 3s there carry water: No. 13, Land O' Lake, is all carry over water and bunkers, and No. 15, Lily Pond, plays 233 yards over water and sand. The 18th, The Grey Mule, has the widest fairway on the course and brings you back to the clubhouse. From the championship tees it's rated 75.9 with a 140 slope.
Phil Ritson, Isao Aoki and David Harman designed Orange County National, which hosted the PGA Tour Qualifying School finals in 2003, 2005, 2007 and 2010, and Crooked Cat hosted the LIV Golf league in March 2023. The property also has a nine-hole short course, a golf academy and what the club calls the largest driving range and practice facility in America. Juniors have to be at least 6 to play Crooked Cat.
