Westchester & Hudson Valley Golf Courses & Tee Times
This market runs from the Bronx line up through Westchester and Rockland, with Bergen County, Putnam and Norwalk on the edges. Public golf here is mostly government golf. Pelham Bay Park had an 18-hole course by 1911, and Robert Moses added Split Rock in the late 1930s; Revolutionary War stone walls from the Pell's Point fight still stand on it. Westchester County took over Maple Moor in 1925 and had all 18 holes open by the end of 1927, and Saxon Woods opened to the public in 1931. Both are Tom Winton designs. Across the river, Rockland Lake State Park's main course is a 1969 David W. Gordon layout.
Good weekend tee times in Westchester & Hudson Valley go fast, and the ones that come back later (cancellations, groups that shrink) aren't announced. Yoink watches the tee sheets at 18 public courses here, from Yonkers, Congers, Pearl River, Orangeburg and Carmel, and tells you the moment a time you want opens up.
The longest layout here is Centennial Golf Club at 7,133 yards; there are 2 nine-hole courses.
Who runs public golf in Westchester & Hudson Valley
Westchester County Parks runs six 18-hole courses: Dunwoodie, Hudson Hills, Maple Moor, Mohansic, Saxon Woods and Sprain Lake. Across the river, New York State Parks runs Rockland Lake, and the towns run their own: Ramapo has Spook Rock and Haverstraw built Philip J. Rotella on former state land in the 1980s. Eastchester owns Lake Isle, and Putnam County has owned its Mahopac course since 2004. Bergen County runs six courses in New Jersey, including Darlington and Overpeck, on a county golf ID. Norwalk's Oak Hills has been run by the Oak Hills Park Authority since 1998.

Why tee times in Westchester & Hudson Valley are hard to get
Golf in Westchester & Hudson Valley follows the seasons: spring openers and fall weekends are the busiest stretches, and summer mornings fill before afternoons.
Most public courses open their tee sheet a set number of days ahead, often 7 to 14, and many municipal courses give residents or card holders an earlier window. The best weekend-morning times usually go the day they're released. Leagues and outings take blocks of the sheet before the public ever sees them.
When tee time cancellations happen
A full tee sheet rarely stays full. Many courses let you cancel without a fee up to 24 or 48 hours before your time, so spots tend to reappear in the last couple of days. A bad forecast shakes more loose, and a foursome that drops to three opens a single. None of it is announced. The time just shows up again on the booking page, and whoever looks first gets it.

Doing it by hand? Here's what works.
- Know the booking window. Find out how many days ahead each course releases times, and whether residents get an earlier window. Be ready the morning it opens.
- Look again 24 to 48 hours out. That's when most cancellation deadlines pass and spots come back.
- Be flexible on group size. Singles and twosomes fit into gaps a foursome can't.
- Try twilight and weekday afternoons. They're the last to fill and often cheaper.
- Keep a quicker course in your back pocket. Nine-hole and executive courses are easier to get on and play faster. Around here that includes Blue Hill Golf Course and Broadacres Golf Club.
