About Philip J. Rotella Memorial Golf Course
Rotella is the Town of Haverstraw's course. In the early 1980s the town bought part of the state's Letchworth property, and Supervisor Philip J. Rotella and Councilman Thomas Lawless decided to make it a public golf course. Hal Purdy designed it, it took two years to build, and it opened in the mid-1980s as the Minisceongo Golf Course. It was later named for Rotella and became the Philip J. Rotella Memorial Golf Course in 2002.
It's a par 72. In 1999 the town brought in Stephen Kay, who added new bunkers and tees and completely redesigned several holes by spring 2003. The town's highway crews have added bridges, cart paths, drainage and stone walls over the years, and the superintendent has recently rebuilt the tees on 8, 9 and 10 and the greenside bunkers on seven holes. The course calls No. 9, a par 5, its signature hole.
