About Rockland Lake State Park Championship Golf C
This is the regulation 18 at Rockland Lake, a New York State Parks course. David W. Gordon designed it in 1969, and it's a par 72 of 6,864 yards from the back tees. State Parks' own description is the thing to know: the fairways slope and are very narrow, and the greens have subtle breaks, so it plays tighter than a park course usually does. Next door is an 18-hole par-3 Executive course played off mats, and the big course has a driving range and a clubhouse snack bar.
The park sits on a ridge of Hook Mountain above the west bank of the Hudson, and it has a past. From 1831 the Knickerbocker Ice Company cut ice on Rockland Lake and shipped it to New York, and the lake became known as the Icehouse of New York City. The company closed in 1924, and the Palisades Interstate Park system started turning the area into a state park in 1958.
