About Putnam County Golf Course
This was a private club for most of its life. William F. Mitchell designed it and it opened in 1959 as Putnam Country Club, later renamed The Country Club at Lake MacGregor after the lake next door. Putnam County bought it in 2004, its first county-owned course, and Homestyle Putnam Golf Inc. runs it now.
Mitchell worked with the land instead of flattening it, so you get rolling fairways and big elevation changes. The map survey counts trees lining 17 of the 18 holes and about 77 feet of elevation across the property, with water on only three holes. It’s a hill-and-trees course, not a water course.
