Colorado Mountains Golf Courses & Tee Times

Mountain golf in Colorado is short-season golf at altitude, and a lot of it is run by towns and districts rather than resorts. The Vail Golf Club went in in 1962, built by Vail pioneer Ben Krueger, and turns into the town's Nordic center once the snow comes. Breckenridge owns 27 holes by Jack Nicklaus at 9,324 feet, three nines called the Bear, the Beaver and the Elk. The Bear opened first, in 1985. Aspen's city course has been going since 1961, and Steamboat Golf Club, a nine-holer you can walk in under two hours, dates to 1965.

Good weekend tee times in Colorado Mountains go fast, and the ones that come back later (cancellations, groups that shrink) aren't announced. Yoink watches the tee sheets at 23 public courses here, from Steamboat Springs, Glenwood Springs, Granby, Aspen and Breckenridge, and tells you the moment a time you want opens up.

The longest layout here is Raven Golf Club at Three Peaks at 7,413 yards; there are 3 nine-hole courses.

The City of Aspen's Parks & Recreation Department runs Aspen Golf Club, where primary residents who show a local driver's license get green-fee discounts. Booking tee times in Colorado Mountains: the local rules

The season is short. Vail's range was set to open around mid-May in 2026 and the course closes October 11, while Breckenridge usually shuts in early October and Aspen's shop is closed November through March. At Vail, anyone can book online up to 60 days out, prepaid, with a $20 per-player advance fee past 14 days. Vail residents get resident rates 14 days ahead. Aspen holds two-thirds of its tee times for pass holders, takes advance bookings online only, and limits you to three tee times in any five days. Unused times open to anyone on the day.

Why tee times in Colorado Mountains are hard to get

The season in Colorado Mountains is short, running roughly from late spring into fall, so every good weekend in that window is contested. The first warm Saturdays of the year are the hardest tee times to get.

Most public courses open their tee sheet a set number of days ahead, often 7 to 14, and many municipal courses give residents or card holders an earlier window. The best weekend-morning times usually go the day they're released. Leagues and outings take blocks of the sheet before the public ever sees them.

When tee time cancellations happen

A full tee sheet rarely stays full. Many courses let you cancel without a fee up to 24 or 48 hours before your time, so spots tend to reappear in the last couple of days. A bad forecast shakes more loose, and a foursome that drops to three opens a single. None of it is announced. The time just shows up again on the booking page, and whoever looks first gets it.

Doing it by hand? Here's what works.

  1. Know the booking window. Find out how many days ahead each course releases times, and whether residents get an earlier window. Be ready the morning it opens.
  2. Look again 24 to 48 hours out. That's when most cancellation deadlines pass and spots come back.
  3. Be flexible on group size. Singles and twosomes fit into gaps a foursome can't.
  4. Try twilight and weekday afternoons. They're the last to fill and often cheaper.
  5. Keep a quicker course in your back pocket. Nine-hole and executive courses are easier to get on and play faster. Around here that includes Glenwood Springs Golf Club, Salida Golf Club and Steamboat Golf Club.
