About Vail Golf Club
Vail Golf Club sits at the base of the Gore Range, with greens that follow Gore Creek and the White River National Forest next door. Ben Krueger, one of Vail's pioneers, designed and built it in 1962, and the Vail Recreation District runs it as the town's public course. When the snow comes it turns into the Vail Nordic Center, with 17 kilometers of groomed ski track.
For a mountain course it's gentle underfoot: the fairways are tree-lined and generally flat, and the district calls it the most walkable course in the Vail Valley. The trouble is the bunkers and the beaver ponds. It's a par 71 of 6,739 yards from the back (71.0 rating, 136 slope), and at this altitude the district says the ball flies about 10 percent farther, so club down.
