About Breckenridge Golf Club
The Town of Breckenridge owns this golf club, and Nicklaus Design says it's the only town anywhere that owns 27 holes of Jack Nicklaus golf. There are three nines, the Bear, the Beaver and the Elk, all Nicklaus Signature, and you play two of them for your 18. The Bear came first in 1985, on ground the early miners called Buffalo Flats. The Beaver followed in 1987 and has the narrowest fairways of the three.
At 9,324 feet the ball flies farther and straighter, so take less club than you think. The holes move from thick woods to open native grass and wetland, with the Rockies in view from every tee, and it's normal to see elk, beaver, red fox or hawks, and now and then a moose or a bear. Summer days usually run 65 to 80 degrees.

From the Nicklaus tees the Elk and Beaver combination plays 7,145 yards with a 72.8 rating and a 150 slope, the second-toughest course rating in Colorado, according to the town's visitor guide.
