Colorado Golf Courses & Tee Times
Golf in Colorado started in Denver. Overland Park Club members were playing by 1887, the club opened a nine-hole course inside a racetrack in 1896 and became the first USGA member club west of the Mississippi that year. That ground is still public golf, run by the City of Denver. The Colorado Golf Association formed in August 1915. In Colorado Springs, Patty Jewett dates to 1898 and has been city-owned since 1919. Jack Nicklaus won the 1959 U.S. Amateur at The Broadmoor, and the same year Bill Wright won the USGA Public Links at Denver's Wellshire, the first African American to win a major national tournament.

Who runs public golf in Colorado
Most public golf in Colorado is run by cities and park districts, not the state. Denver Golf has eight facilities, including Wellshire, a Donald Ross course, and City Park, Denver's first public course from 1913. Aurora, Golden, Colorado Springs and suburban park districts run their own. The Colorado Golf Association, the USGA's allied association for Colorado and Wyoming, merged with the Denver District association in 1961 and with the Colorado Women's Golf Association on January 1, 2018. It serves about 100,000 golfers, runs handicaps and course rating, and owns CommonGround in Aurora, the old Lowry Air Force Base course that Tom Doak rebuilt in 2009. For juniors, the CGA sells Youth on Course: $50 a year for ages 6 to 18 and $5 or less a round at participating courses.

Getting a tee time in Colorado
Golf in Colorado follows the seasons: spring openers and fall weekends are the busiest stretches, and summer mornings fill before afternoons.
Most public courses open their tee sheet a set number of days ahead, often 7 to 14, and many municipal courses give residents or card holders an earlier window. The best weekend-morning times usually go the day they're released. Leagues and outings take blocks of the sheet before the public ever sees them.
Booked-up doesn't mean gone. Plans change: groups cancel ahead of the course's cancellation deadline (often 24 to 48 hours out), players drop when the forecast turns, and a group that shrinks leaves an open spot. Those times quietly come back on the booking page, usually for minutes, not hours.
