Western Slope Golf Courses & Tee Times

Golf on the Western Slope runs from Grand Junction's canyon country up to Montrose. The Grand Junction city courses sit under Colorado National Monument, with the Grand Mesa and Book Cliffs in view. Redlands Mesa, a Jim Engh design, plays through the red-rock ridges on the west side of town. In August 2026 the city held the Rocky Mountain Open, a 54-hole pro event with a pro-am, at Tiara Rado.

Good weekend tee times in Western Slope go fast, and the ones that come back later (cancellations, groups that shrink) aren't announced. Yoink watches the tee sheets at 15 public courses here, from Grand Junction, Montrose, Fruita, Battlement Mesa and Cedaredge, and tells you the moment a time you want opens up.

The longest layout here is Cedaredge Golf Club at 6,418 yards; there is one nine-hole course.

Who runs public golf in Western Slope

The City of Grand Junction runs two municipal courses: Tiara Rado, an 18 next to Colorado National Monument, and Lincoln Park, a walkable nine near downtown. Residents pay less at both; Lincoln Park's 2025 18-hole walking rate was $24 for residents and $35 for non-residents. A Birdie Pass ($500) or Eagle Pass ($800, with carts) covers both courses. In Montrose the city owns Black Canyon Golf Course, which opened in 1959. The city built its back nine on land donated in 1986 and bid $635,000 for the front nine in 2014. A $55 Black Canyon Card knocks $4 off 18-hole rates for the rest of the year.

Why tee times in Western Slope are hard to get

The season in Western Slope runs roughly from spring to late fall. The first warm weekends in spring and the cool, dry weekends of fall are the hardest to book.

Most public courses open their tee sheet a set number of days ahead, often 7 to 14, and many municipal courses give residents or card holders an earlier window. The best weekend-morning times usually go the day they're released. Leagues and outings take blocks of the sheet before the public ever sees them.

When tee time cancellations happen

Booked-up doesn't mean gone. Plans change: groups cancel ahead of the course's cancellation deadline (often 24 to 48 hours out), players drop when the forecast turns, and a group that shrinks leaves an open spot. Those times quietly come back on the booking page, usually for minutes, not hours.

Doing it by hand? Here's what works.

  1. Know the booking window. Find out how many days ahead each course releases times, and whether residents get an earlier window. Be ready the morning it opens.
  2. Look again 24 to 48 hours out. That's when most cancellation deadlines pass and spots come back.
  3. Be flexible on group size. Singles and twosomes fit into gaps a foursome can't.
  4. Try twilight and weekday afternoons. They're the last to fill and often cheaper.
  5. Keep a quicker course in your back pocket. Nine-hole and executive courses are easier to get on and play faster. Around here that includes Lincoln Park Golf Course.
