Charlotte Golf Courses & Tee Times
Charlotte's public golf has deep roots and a real civil rights story. The 9-hole Dr. Charles L. Sifford Golf Course in South End opened as Bonnie Brae, a city course that was whites-only until James Otis Williams teed off on January 9, 1957, after sixteen Black golfers were turned away in 1951. It lost its back nine to I-77 and in 2010 took the name of Charlie Sifford, the Charlotte caddie who became the first African American member of the PGA Tour. The big-event course in town is private: Quail Hollow, host of the Truist Championship since 2003, the 2022 Presidents Cup, and two PGA Championships, Justin Thomas in 2017 and Scottie Scheffler in 2025.
Good weekend tee times in Charlotte go fast, and the ones that come back later (cancellations, groups that shrink) aren't announced. Yoink watches the tee sheets at 45 public courses here, from Shelby, Statesville, Mocksville, Matthews and Monroe, and tells you the moment a time you want opens up.
The longest layout here is Harry L. Jones, Sr. Golf Course at 7,360 yards; there are 4 nine-hole courses.
Who runs public golf in Charlotte
Mecklenburg County runs four courses under the Meck County Golf name. Sifford is the short one near uptown. Charles T. Myers in east Charlotte opened in 1986 on the old Harrisburg Road landfill and went to 18 holes in 1997. Harry L. Jones Sr., near the airport, is a Kidwell and Hurdzan design from 1987, also on a closed landfill, renamed in 2017 for the county's first African American county manager. Sunset Hills, off Brookshire Boulevard, opened to the public in 1952 after a Bill Love redesign and has a 9-hole learner's course. The county parks list also includes the First Tee of Charlotte in Pineville and The Tradition. Nearby cities run their own: Rocky River in Concord is a Dan Maples course from 1997, and across the line in South Carolina, Tega Cay Golf Club has 27 holes.

Why tee times in Charlotte are hard to get
Spring and fall are peak season in Charlotte. In summer the heat pushes everyone toward early morning, so the first few hours of the day fill before anything else.
Most public courses open their tee sheet a set number of days ahead, often 7 to 14, and many municipal courses give residents or card holders an earlier window. The best weekend-morning times usually go the day they're released. Leagues and outings take blocks of the sheet before the public ever sees them.
When tee time cancellations happen
A full tee sheet rarely stays full. Many courses let you cancel without a fee up to 24 or 48 hours before your time, so spots tend to reappear in the last couple of days. A bad forecast shakes more loose, and a foursome that drops to three opens a single. None of it is announced. The time just shows up again on the booking page, and whoever looks first gets it.

Every course in Charlotte on one watchlist: all 45 of them
Yoink watches all 45 courses in Charlotte for you. The open tee times sit in one place instead of a dozen booking pages, and your phone buzzes the moment one fits your day, time window and group, cancellations included.
Doing it by hand? Here's what works.
- Know the booking window. Find out how many days ahead each course releases times, and whether residents get an earlier window. Be ready the morning it opens.
- Look again 24 to 48 hours out. That's when most cancellation deadlines pass and spots come back.
- Be flexible on group size. Singles and twosomes fit into gaps a foursome can't.
- Try twilight and weekday afternoons. They're the last to fill and often cheaper.
- Keep a quicker course in your back pocket. Nine-hole and executive courses are easier to get on and play faster. Around here that includes Dogwood Valley Golf Course, Dr. Charles L. Sifford Golf Course at Revolution Park and Royster Memorial Golf Course.

Tee times in Charlotte: questions
How do I get notified when a tee time opens up in Charlotte?
Set a watch in Yoink for the courses you want, the days you can play, a time window and the number of players. Yoink checks those tee sheets every few minutes and sends a notification as soon as a matching time appears, cancellations included. You book it directly with the course.
When do tee time cancellations usually show up?
Mostly in the 24 to 48 hours before the tee time, as golfers cancel ahead of the course's cancellation deadline, and whenever the weather forecast changes. They appear without notice and tend to be rebooked quickly.
How far in advance can you book a tee time in Charlotte?
It depends on the course. Many public courses open bookings 7 to 14 days ahead, and town or county courses often give residents an earlier window. Each course's own booking page has its policy.
When is golf busiest in Charlotte?
Demand is highest in spring and fall, and early in the morning in summer. Weekend mornings are always the hardest tee times to get.
Which courses in Charlotte are quickest to play?
Nine-hole and executive courses such as Dogwood Valley Golf Course, Dr. Charles L. Sifford Golf Course at Revolution Park and Royster Memorial Golf Course take less time and are usually easier to book.
