About Sunset Hills Golf Course
Sunset Hills sits in northwest Mecklenburg County just off Brookshire Boulevard, and its roots are homemade: the landowner turned a farm pasture into a golf course for friendly competition. Bill Love later redesigned it, and it opened to the public in 1952.
Today it's one of Mecklenburg County's four public courses: an 18-hole regulation course, a 9-hole learner's course, and a full driving range and practice area, with Bermuda grass from tee to green. The learner's nine makes it a good place to bring someone new to the game. There's a Snack Shack, and you can call ahead from the turn (704-399-0980, ext. 2) so your order is ready.
Since January 2024 Troon and the First Tee of Greater Charlotte have run the county courses under an agreement of up to 20 years. By May 2025 the county had put more than $1.8 million into capital improvements across the four courses, and Troon had bought new golf carts.
It's one of 58 courses Yoink watches in the Charlotte area, and Sunset Hills Golf Course The 9 hole Short Course-Par 31 is practically next door — handy when your first choice is booked solid.
