About Willow Creek Golf & Country Club

Willow Creek is a Stephen Kay design that the club says brings a Floridian flair to Long Island: water features and bunkers, kept in resort condition. It's a daily-fee course run by Invited, the former ClubCorp, and it sells memberships too, but the public can book.

The hole everyone remembers is the 16th, a par 3 over water to an island green with water on every side. The Black Duck Bistro looks right out at it, so your tee shot has an audience. The club rates the 9th as the hardest hole, a straightaway par 5 with water down both sides, and says the long par-4 17th usually plays over par, with water left and trees right. Water keeps turning up on the back half of the round.

There's a full-length range and three short-game greens, and the club offers private and group lessons.

It's one of 46 courses Yoink watches in the Long Island area, and the closest alternative is Port Jefferson Country Club - Port Jefferson, about 2 miles away — handy when your first choice is booked solid.
