About Stonebridge Golf Links & CC
Stonebridge is a tribute act, and a good one. Every hole has a name, and the list reads like the Macdonald and Raynor template book: the Alps 2nd, the Redan 4th, the Road Hole 5th, the Biarritz 7th, the Cape 10th, the Punchbowl 12th and the Eden 17th among them. Bahto described it as his own eclectic version of Macdonald and Raynor greens he had visited. The Biarritz is 234 yards from the blue tees.
It started with Gil Hanse. In 1997 he asked George Bahto to suggest a single Raynor-style hole for a course he was designing in Hauppauge. One became several, and Hanse decided to make the whole thing Raynor-style. A couple of years in, Hanse handed the project to Bahto, who finished it by the end of 1999. Bahto himself called it a bit short and very tight. He counted the 18th, a double-plateau dogleg with a tough carry at the corner, as a tough par 4.
It's semi-private: members get their own tee times, and the public books the rest online. In 2024 the owner proposed 28 more houses on the property, plus a driving range and a new clubhouse, with changes to the course. After loud local opposition the application was withdrawn that May. Covenants from 1999 cap housing at 105 homes on the 134 acres.
