About Crab Meadow Golf Course

Crab Meadow is the Town of Huntington's 18-hole course, on Waterside Road in Northport on the North Shore. The water is the point: Huntington's parks director has said you can see Long Island Sound from 16 of the 18 holes. It's a busy muni, with the town counting 42,000 to 45,000 rounds a year in 2015. William F. Mitchell designed it. It plays 6,574 yards from the back (71.6 rating, 125 slope) and 5,658 from the front (73.7, 126).

The ground was golf before the town owned it. It was part of the Northport Country Club, founded in the 1920s, and the town's parks director believes Devereux Emmet laid out the original course there in 1921. The club was abandoned by the 1940s. Supervisor Robert J. Flynn pushed a $2.5 million bond that Huntington voters approved in 1962, and the town hired Mitchell to build the current course as part of Suffolk County's first municipal parks system. In 2020 the Town Board voted unanimously to rename the course in Flynn's honor.
