About Clearview Park Golf Course
Clearview started in 1925 as the Clearview Golf and Yacht Club, an exclusive retreat for well-known New Yorkers; Governor Al Smith was a member. Willie Tucker designed it on gently rolling ground by Little Neck Bay. On June 25, 1931, the city bought it for $940,000, about half the asking price, and Parks redesigned the whole course and built new club facilities between 1935 and 1940.
Today it's a par 70 of 6,328 yards at the foot of the Throgs Neck Bridge, and GolfNYC calls it the busiest 18-hole course on the East Coast. It's somewhat hilly, with some wide-open fairways and others lined with trees. The map survey counts trees along 14 holes, about a dozen doglegs, around 31 bunkers and water near only four holes, so it's a placement course more than a carry course. Course character from OpenStreetMap contributors' survey data.
The hole people talk about is the 17th, a 395-yard par 4 with views of Long Island Sound and the bridge. The longest hole is the 473-yard 2nd. The Clearview Expressway took a strip of the east side in 1957, and a 1999 citywide irrigation project brought new sprinklers, ponds and pump houses. New management came in 2024 with plans for new carts, tees, cart paths and bunkers, and there's an 8,000-square-foot putting green.
It's one of 14 courses Yoink watches in the New York City area, and the closest alternative is Douglaston Golf Course (Queens), about 1 mile away — handy when your first choice is booked solid.
