Harbor Links Golf Course
Michael Hurdzan built it in 1998 in an old sand mine: tees and greens perched on the bluff, fairways wrapped around wetlands, and a hole called Arizona.

About Harbor Links Golf Course
Harbor Links sits on what used to be Port Washington's sand mines, the pits that supplied concrete sand for the Empire State and Chrysler buildings and the subway. Michael Hurdzan dug into the old workings and opened the par-72 course at the end of July 1998, with a nine-hole course following later that year. The Town of North Hempstead owns it, and Brooke Management Group runs it.
The mining shows everywhere. Tees and greens sit on plateaus stepped up the tall bluff, fairways curl around restored wetlands, and the rock features look more like the Southwest than the North Shore; one hole is even named "Arizona." Holes 12 and 13 play over old mine tailings, and three holes have split fairways that give you a choice off the tee. In 2001 it became the 29th Certified Signature Sanctuary in the world, a recognition for how the property is managed for the environment.
Carts are required on weekends on the big course. The nine-hole Lower Course, a par 31 of 1,460 to 1,668 yards, is walkable at any time, and there's a range and The Sand Mine mini golf course for everyone else.
It's one of 46 courses Yoink watches in the Long Island area, and the closest alternative is Christopher Morley Park Golf Course, about 3 miles away — handy when your first choice is booked solid.
