About Cherry Creek Golf Links
Cherry Creek is the long, open one on the East End. It was built on 166 acres of former potato and sod farms and opened in 1996, and it plays like farmland: long, generous fairways, and elevated tees. The Sound is only a mile north, and with flat fields and vineyards all around, the wind is part of the deal. Water comes into play on four holes.
It's a par 73, and it stretches to 7,187 yards from the blue tees (73.9 rating, 129 slope), with white, yellow and red tees at 6,567, 6,058 and 5,620. The finish is the reason people remember it: the 18th is a 644-yard par 6, which Wikipedia calls the only par 6 in the New York metro area. Wikipedia names the 12th as the signature hole: a par 4 from an elevated tee to a narrow, sloping fairway with a pond down the right.
Charles Jurgens designed it, according to Wikipedia. A sister course, The Woods at Cherry Creek, was added across the street in 2002. There's an all-grass range, a short-game area and the 19th Hole restaurant, and it's not far from the Tanger outlets and the North Fork wineries.
It's one of 3 courses in Riverhead on Yoink, and Indian Island Golf Course is practically next door — handy when your first choice is booked solid.
