Indiana
Indianapolis Golf Courses & Tee Times
Indianapolis has played public golf since 1900, when the city opened Riverside, its first municipal course and the fourth in the country. Coffin, on the White River, hosted the USGA Public Links in 1935, 1955 and 1972, and Eagle Creek had it in 1982, which made Indianapolis the only city to host four. Pete Dye lived here, and his work is all over town: Sahm on the northeast side, one of his first designs, the 36 holes at Eagle Creek, and Brickyard Crossing, which puts four holes inside the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The biggest tournament in the area was private, though: John Daly's 1991 PGA at Crooked Stick in Carmel.

Who runs public golf in Indianapolis
Indy Parks owns the city courses, and its course pages list private management companies for several of them: Capital City Golf Management at Smock, Thatcher and Winding River, and Cooprider Golf at Sahm and Whispering Hills. The 18-hole courses are Eagle Creek (two of them), Coffin, Sarah Shank, Pleasant Run, Sahm, Smock, Winding River and Whispering Hills. Douglass and Thatcher are nines, and Thatcher is 2,684 yards at par 35 with no tee times needed. Sarah Shank sits two miles from downtown, Pleasant Run has been in Irvington since the early 1920s, and Douglass dates to the 1920s. Riverside, the original, closed after the 2019 season to make way for a new park. No city resident card or resident booking window turned up in what we read.

Why tee times in Indianapolis are hard to get
The season in Indianapolis runs roughly from spring to late fall. The first warm weekends in spring and the cool, dry weekends of fall are the hardest to book.
Each course releases its tee times on its own schedule, commonly a week or two out, with residents of town and county courses often booking first. Leagues, outings and members claim chunks of the sheet in advance, and whatever prime weekend times are left tend to go on release day.
When tee time cancellations happen
A full tee sheet rarely stays full. Many courses let you cancel without a fee up to 24 or 48 hours before your time, so spots tend to reappear in the last couple of days. A bad forecast shakes more loose, and a foursome that drops to three opens a single. None of it is announced. The time just shows up again on the booking page, and whoever looks first gets it.
How to get a tee time in Indianapolis
Yoink
All 74 courses in Indianapolis, watched for you around the clock
Yoink watches all 74 courses in Indianapolis for you. The open tee times sit in one place instead of a dozen booking pages, and your phone buzzes the moment one fits your day, time window and group, cancellations included.
Doing it by hand? Here's what works.
- Know the booking window. Find out how many days ahead each course releases times, and whether residents get an earlier window. Be ready the morning it opens.
- Look again 24 to 48 hours out. That's when most cancellation deadlines pass and spots come back.
- Be flexible on group size. Singles and twosomes fit into gaps a foursome can't.
- Try twilight and weekday afternoons. They're the last to fill and often cheaper.
- Keep a quicker course in your back pocket. Nine-hole and executive courses are easier to get on and play faster. Around here that includes Zionsville Golf Course.
