About Sugarmill Woods Country Club

Sugarmill Woods was once 27 holes: three nines named Cypress, Pine and Oak. The Oak closed in 2019, and what you play now is the Cypress and Pine together, a par 72 of 6,908 yards from the blue tees on the club's scorecard, with white (6,375), yellow (6,086) and black (5,771) tees and shorter sets below. The front nine rates 71.6 with a 124 slope from the blues.

The community around it was platted in 1972 and takes its name from the Yulee Sugar Mill ruins nearby in Homosassa. The course had a rough patch: when Tampa-based Links Golf, led by longtime PGA pro Scott Yates and his wife Penny Parks, bought it in July 2022, Yates told the Citrus County Chronicle it had been in danger of shutting down. By March 2023 the new owners had put $2 million to $4 million into Sugarmill, Southern Woods and the Oak Village complex, and membership had grown from 698 to 817.

It's a semi-private club. Members also get Citrus National, the former Southern Woods, for 36 holes in all, plus tennis, pickleball, a lap pool and fitness at Oak Village.
