About Plantation on Crystal River Golf Course
This is old Florida golf on the Nature Coast. Mark Mahannah designed it in the late 1950s in the traditional Florida style, with water and bunkers to play around, and the fairways are lined with mature pines and oaks. It's par 72 and runs from 4,703 to 6,496 yards, so there's a sensible set of tees for almost anyone, and it's a resort course that plays like a club course.
It opened as Paradise Country Club, and it drew a crowd. According to the resort, Sam Snead, Arnold Palmer, Tony Lema and Lee Trevino all played it, and tour pros including Tommy Bolt, Frank Stranahan, Ken Venturi and Al Balding spent their winters nearby. Bolt was a frequent player and guest once the resort opened in the '60s. A short Lagoons nine was added in 1982 for wedge and putting practice.
