Pennsylvania Golf Courses & Tee Times

Pennsylvania has three golf associations and some of the oldest in the country. The Golf Association of Philadelphia dates to February 5, 1897, and the Western Pennsylvania Golf Association to 1899. The statewide body, the Pennsylvania Golf Association, was formed on February 19, 1909, at Philadelphia's Rittenhouse Club by six men from Pittsburgh and Philadelphia. Its first state Amateur, at Huntingdon Valley, ended with Harold McFarland beating A.W. Tillinghast. On the public side, the story starts at Cobbs Creek in Philadelphia, a 1916 Hugh Wilson course that hosted the 1928 U.S. Public Links.

Who runs public golf in Pennsylvania

There is no big state-park golf system here. DCNR lists two courses in state parks, both run by the clubs themselves: Caledonia, a par-68 course from the late 1920s next to Caledonia State Park, and Skippack, a par-70 layout inside Evansburg State Park. Most public golf is local. Allegheny County runs two 18-hole, par-72 courses at North Park and South Park, with lower rates for county residents: in 2026, $25 to walk 18 on a weekday versus $31 for non-residents. Philadelphia's courses sit on Fairmount Park land, and townships such as Lower Makefield and West Norriton own well-known public courses in the suburbs. For juniors 6 to 18, Youth on Course gets $5 walking rounds at participating courses, run through the WPGA in the west and GAP in the east.

Getting a tee time in Pennsylvania

The season in Pennsylvania runs roughly from spring to late fall. The first warm weekends in spring and the cool, dry weekends of fall are the hardest to book.

Each course releases its tee times on its own schedule, commonly a week or two out, with residents of town and county courses often booking first. Leagues, outings and members claim chunks of the sheet in advance, and whatever prime weekend times are left tend to go on release day.

Booked-up doesn't mean gone. Plans change: groups cancel ahead of the course's cancellation deadline (often 24 to 48 hours out), players drop when the forecast turns, and a group that shrinks leaves an open spot. Those times quietly come back on the booking page, usually for minutes, not hours.
