About Walnut Lane Golf Club
Walnut Lane is Philadelphia's executive-length course, inside Wissahickon Valley Park. It's 18 holes at par 62, so there are a lot of par 3s, and the Blue tees rate just 61.2 with a 107 slope. Don't let the numbers fool you: it's very hilly, the fairways are narrow and lined with trees, and the greens are small. There's no water and only a few small bunkers, so the ground and the trees are the defense.
The Fairmount Park Commission got the land in 1870. Alex Findlay designed the course, WPA labor built it starting in 1935, and it formally opened in May 1940. The clubhouse followed in 1963. The whole park is just under 95 acres. Today it's also home to First Tee – Greater Philadelphia.
It's one of 86 courses Yoink watches in the Philadelphia area, and the closest alternative is Juniata Golf Course, about 6 miles away — handy when your first choice is booked solid.
