Bend & Central Oregon Golf Courses & Tee Times

Central Oregon golf is high-desert golf: juniper, lava rock and Cascade views around Bend, Redmond, Sisters and Prineville. Several of the public courses date from the late 1980s and 1990s. River's Edge opened as nine holes in 1987 and went to 18 in 1992. The Cyrus family bought the Aspen Lakes land in 1987 and built the course themselves. Eagle Crest's Ridge Course was finished in 1993, and Prineville built Meadow Lakes to solve a wastewater problem.

Good weekend tee times in Bend & Central Oregon go fast, and the ones that come back later (cancellations, groups that shrink) aren't announced. Yoink watches the tee sheets at 13 public courses here, from Sisters, Black Butte Ranch, Terrebonne, La Pine and Redmond, and tells you the moment a time you want opens up.

The longest layout here is Pronghorn Club - Nicklaus Signature Course at 7,460 yards.

Who runs public golf in Bend & Central Oregon

Meadow Lakes is Prineville's municipal course. The city built it after facing fines of up to $25,000 a day over wastewater in the Crooked River, and nine evaporation ponds now double as hazards. In Bend, River's Edge was set to close for housing in 2022 until the surrounding homeowners bought it; a non-profit now runs it and is chartered to keep it an affordable public 18 in perpetuity. We found no city or county resident card or resident booking window in the region.

Why tee times in Bend & Central Oregon are hard to get

The season in Bend & Central Oregon runs roughly from spring to late fall. The first warm weekends in spring and the cool, dry weekends of fall are the hardest to book.

Each course releases its tee times on its own schedule, commonly a week or two out, with residents of town and county courses often booking first. Leagues, outings and members claim chunks of the sheet in advance, and whatever prime weekend times are left tend to go on release day.

When tee time cancellations happen

A full tee sheet rarely stays full. Many courses let you cancel without a fee up to 24 or 48 hours before your time, so spots tend to reappear in the last couple of days. A bad forecast shakes more loose, and a foursome that drops to three opens a single. None of it is announced. The time just shows up again on the booking page, and whoever looks first gets it.

Doing it by hand? Here's what works.

  1. Know the booking window. Find out how many days ahead each course releases times, and whether residents get an earlier window. Be ready the morning it opens.
  2. Look again 24 to 48 hours out. That's when most cancellation deadlines pass and spots come back.
  3. Be flexible on group size. Singles and twosomes fit into gaps a foursome can't.
  4. Try twilight and weekday afternoons. They're the last to fill and often cheaper.
  5. Widen the map. If your first choice is full, check the next town over. Sisters has 1 courses on Yoink and Black Butte Ranch has 1.
