About Paiute Golf Resort - Sun
Sun Mountain (Tav-Ai-Kaiv) was the second of Pete Dye's three Paiute courses, opening in 1996 per a 2021 Elevated Magazines article. It's 7,112 yards, par 72, with four sets of tees, and it sits on rolling desert ground with big slope changes and the mountains behind it. The resort staff call it their favorite. The par-4 2nd looks out at the Sheep Mountain range.
The hole people talk about is the 4th, a par 3 over water with a bunker right and not much room left. The 5th asks for another long carry over water. The course record is 64, shared by Gary Wise and Adam Svensson.
It was 34th on GolfAdvisor's 2016 list of top U.S. courses, and Elevated Magazines reported in July 2021 that Sun Mountain was hosting that year's Korn Ferry Tour MGM Resorts Championship as well as U.S. Open local qualifying.
