About Las Vegas Paiute Golf Resort
The Las Vegas Paiute Tribe owns and runs this 54-hole resort 25 minutes northwest of the Strip, and all three courses are Pete Dye's: Snow Mountain, Sun Mountain and The Wolf. The resort calls them his only pure designs in Nevada, and says it was the first master-planned, multi-course facility of its kind built on Native American land. There isn't a house or building on any of the 54 holes, and it sits higher than the Strip, so it runs a little cooler.
Each course has its own feel. Snow Mountain opened first, in 1995, with wide rye fairways, railroad-tie bunkers and water on seven holes. Sun Mountain followed in 1996 and plays over rolling ground under the mountains; the staff call it their favorite. The Wolf came in 2001, when Annika Sorenstam and Karrie Webb opened it in a Shell's Wonderful World of Golf match. At 7,604 yards it's billed as the longest course in Nevada, and its 15th is an island green (opening years from a 2021 Elevated Magazines article).
The honors on the resort's list include a 2014 CAGGY Award for Best Las Vegas Golf Experience, a spot in Chris Santella's book 50 Places to Play Golf Before You Die, and GolfAdvisor's 2016 lists, where Sun Mountain was 34th and Snow Mountain 35th among U.S. courses and all three made Nevada's top six.
