Jackson & Central Mississippi Golf Courses & Tee Times
Jackson's public golf starts with Pete Brown Golf Facility, the city course that opened in 1947 as Jackson Municipal. Pete Brown caddied there as a kid, when locals called it the Muny, and went on to become the first Black player to win a PGA-sanctioned event. The course was renamed for him in June 2019. The metro's big tournament was the PGA Tour's Sanderson Farms Championship, played at Annandale in Madison from 1994 to 2013 and then at the private Country Club of Jackson from 2014 until its final year in 2025.

Who runs public golf in Jackson & Central Mississippi
The City of Jackson runs Pete Brown, an 18-hole course with a driving range that the city says is open year-round. In Flowood, the city owns The Refuge, a 1998 Roy Case design that closed in 2017 for a Nathan Crace renovation that stretched it past 7,000 yards; it reopened in April 2021. The nine-hole course at LeFleur's Bluff State Park in Jackson closed in 2019 with no reopening date. The rest of the public-access golf is daily-fee and semi-private: Live Oaks, a par-71 John F. Stahl course from 1969, and Bay Pointe in Brandon on the Ross Barnett Reservoir, which takes public play.

Why tee times in Jackson & Central Mississippi are hard to get
Spring and fall are peak season in Jackson & Central Mississippi. In summer the heat pushes everyone toward early morning, so the first few hours of the day fill before anything else.
Most public courses open their tee sheet a set number of days ahead, often 7 to 14, and many municipal courses give residents or card holders an earlier window. The best weekend-morning times usually go the day they're released. Leagues and outings take blocks of the sheet before the public ever sees them.
When tee time cancellations happen
Booked-up doesn't mean gone. Plans change: groups cancel ahead of the course's cancellation deadline (often 24 to 48 hours out), players drop when the forecast turns, and a group that shrinks leaves an open spot. Those times quietly come back on the booking page, usually for minutes, not hours.

Doing it by hand? Here's what works.
- Know the booking window. Find out how many days ahead each course releases times, and whether residents get an earlier window. Be ready the morning it opens.
- Look again 24 to 48 hours out. That's when most cancellation deadlines pass and spots come back.
- Be flexible on group size. Singles and twosomes fit into gaps a foursome can't.
- Try twilight and weekday afternoons. They're the last to fill and often cheaper.
- Keep a quicker course in your back pocket. Nine-hole and executive courses are easier to get on and play faster. Around here that includes Whisper Lake Country Club.
