Mississippi Golf Courses & Tee Times
The Mississippi Golf Association was founded in 1925 and turned 100 with more than 80 member clubs and over 11,000 individual members. It is the governing body for amateur golf in the state, partnered with the USGA, and runs handicapping, course rating and the state events with four full-time staff. The state's PGA Tour stop began in 1968 as the Magnolia Classic at Hattiesburg Country Club, moved to Annandale in Madison in 1994 and to the Country Club of Jackson in 2014, and was last played in 2025. Coast golf is older still: Thomas Bendelow laid out hotel courses on the Gulf in 1902.

Who runs public golf in Mississippi
State park golf is limited. John W. Kyle State Park at Sardis has Mallard Pointe, a 7,004-yard Bob Cupp design, and Trace State Park near Pontotoc lists a course. Several of the best-known public-access golf belongs to casinos and a tribe: Dancing Rabbit near Philadelphia has two Tom Fazio and Jerry Pate courses, and on the coast Grand Bear, Shell Landing and others take daily play, while Fallen Oak is only for Beau Rivage guests. Mossy Oak and Old Waverly went private in 2024. For juniors, the MGA's Mississippi Junior Golf Foundation runs summer events for close to 300 players aged 7 to 18, and the North Mississippi Coke Tour takes ages 5 to 18.

Getting a tee time in Mississippi
In Mississippi, the busiest months are spring and fall. In summer, everyone wants to finish before the heat, so early tee times go first.
Each course releases its tee times on its own schedule, commonly a week or two out, with residents of town and county courses often booking first. Leagues, outings and members claim chunks of the sheet in advance, and whatever prime weekend times are left tend to go on release day.
A full tee sheet rarely stays full. Many courses let you cancel without a fee up to 24 or 48 hours before your time, so spots tend to reappear in the last couple of days. A bad forecast shakes more loose, and a foursome that drops to three opens a single. None of it is announced. The time just shows up again on the booking page, and whoever looks first gets it.
