Grand Rapids Golf Courses & Tee Times
Grand Rapids golf leans on two public anchors and a strong run of newer designs. Indian Trails has served the city since 1928, and the City paid for its first major redesign in 2017. Kent County's Kaufman course in Wyoming opened in 1965 and hosts the Kent County Amateur, which marked its 60th year in 2025. Jerry Matthews, born in Grand Rapids in 1934, went on to design 90 Michigan courses, including St. Ives at Tullymore and Timber Ridge and Hawk Hollow near Lansing.

Who runs public golf in Grand Rapids
Kent County Parks runs Kaufman Golf Course: 18 holes, a range and a putting green, open late March to mid-November, dawn to sunset. The county sells single rounds, season passes and punch cards, with discounts for seniors and some students. Indian Trails on Kalamazoo Avenue SE got its first major redesign in 2017, paid for by the City. It added a 25-acre range and what the course calls West Michigan's largest short-game area.

- Indian Trails Golf Course: City course serving Grand Rapids since 1928. The 2017 redesign added a 25-acre range and a large short-game area.

Why tee times in Grand Rapids are hard to get
The season in Grand Rapids is short, running roughly from late spring into fall, so every good weekend in that window is contested. The first warm Saturdays of the year are the hardest tee times to get.
Most public courses open their tee sheet a set number of days ahead, often 7 to 14, and many municipal courses give residents or card holders an earlier window. The best weekend-morning times usually go the day they're released. Leagues and outings take blocks of the sheet before the public ever sees them.
When tee time cancellations happen
Booked-up doesn't mean gone. Plans change: groups cancel ahead of the course's cancellation deadline (often 24 to 48 hours out), players drop when the forecast turns, and a group that shrinks leaves an open spot. Those times quietly come back on the booking page, usually for minutes, not hours.
How to get a tee time in Grand Rapids
Yoink
All 84 courses in Grand Rapids, watched for you around the clock
Yoink checks all 84 courses in Grand Rapids every few minutes, so every open time is in one place and you're the first to know when one that fits your day, window and group appears, cancellations included.
Doing it by hand? Here's what works.
- Know the booking window. Find out how many days ahead each course releases times, and whether residents get an earlier window. Be ready the morning it opens.
- Look again 24 to 48 hours out. That's when most cancellation deadlines pass and spots come back.
- Be flexible on group size. Singles and twosomes fit into gaps a foursome can't.
- Try twilight and weekday afternoons. They're the last to fill and often cheaper.
- Keep a quicker course in your back pocket. Nine-hole and executive courses are easier to get on and play faster. Around here that includes Gull Lake View - Gull Lake View East - Front Nine, Gull Lake View - Gull Lake View West - Front Nine and Maple Brook Golf Club - Maple Brook Golf Course.
