Indian Trails Golf Course

About Indian Trails Golf Course

Indian Trails is the City of Grand Rapids' own course on Kalamazoo Avenue, and it's short: after the 2017 rebuild it plays as a par 65 of 4,687 yards, with a 107 slope for men and 114 for women. That makes it quick, cheap and a good place to work on the scoring clubs. You can walk 9 or 18 or take a cart.

The course has served the city since 1928. In 2017 the city put $2.8 million into its first major redesign, approved by the city commission in fall 2015 and finished after 16 months: seven redesigned holes, irrigation across the whole course, a 25-acre driving range and what the course calls West Michigan's largest short-game practice area, with five practice greens and bunkers.

Two more things worth knowing. Caddies are First Tee kids working toward the Evans Scholarship; there's no fee, just a $20 minimum tip for 18, and you reserve one when you book. It was also the first course in Michigan to offer Speedgolf, where you run the round and your strokes and time add up to one score, on Tuesday and Saturday mornings between 6:45 and 7:20 with no tee time needed.

It's one of 84 courses Yoink watches in the Grand Rapids area, and the closest alternative is Kaufman Golf Course, about 4 miles away — handy when your first choice is booked solid.
