Michigan Golf Courses & Tee Times
Michigan golf is big and it is old. The Michigan Open, which is open to pros and amateurs, has been played since 1916. The Michigan Section of the PGA was founded in 1922 and has held its section championship every year since. Much of the public golf you play here was drawn by Jerry Matthews, the 'Johnny Appleseed' of Michigan golf. By 2005 he had 90 designs in 42 of the state's 83 counties.
Tee times in Michigan are easier to get when you know when they open. Getting a tee time in Michigan
The season in Michigan is short, running roughly from late spring into fall, so every good weekend in that window is contested. The first warm Saturdays of the year are the hardest tee times to get.
Most public courses open their tee sheet a set number of days ahead, often 7 to 14, and many municipal courses give residents or card holders an earlier window. The best weekend-morning times usually go the day they're released. Leagues and outings take blocks of the sheet before the public ever sees them.
A full tee sheet rarely stays full. Many courses let you cancel without a fee up to 24 or 48 hours before your time, so spots tend to reappear in the last couple of days. A bad forecast shakes more loose, and a foursome that drops to three opens a single. None of it is announced. The time just shows up again on the booking page, and whoever looks first gets it.
