About Candler Park Golf Course

Candler Park is Atlanta's in-town nine, in the northeast neighborhoods, inside the 55-acre park that Coca-Cola founder Asa Candler gave the city. The course opened in 1927. The neighborhood golf trust says it was built so Candler's daughter could play at a time when women were shut out of private clubs, and it's still one of the most relaxed places to play in the city.

It uses Atlanta's hills, so a quick nine still gets your legs going; there are three sets of tees, and pull carts rent for $4. The city calls it fun and fast. It's a starter course in the best sense: kids 7 and up, beginners and families, plus FootGolf on the same ground.

The Candler Park Golf Trust, a neighborhood group working with the city, is raising money through an annual Candler Park Golf Classic. First up is a roughly $100,000 redo of the back clubhouse area, and the trust wants to bring in an architect who understands municipal golf to keep it fun, walkable and not punishing.

It's one of 82 courses Yoink watches in the Atlanta area, and the closest alternative is Charlie Yates Golf Course, about 2 miles away — handy when your first choice is booked solid.
