Georgia Golf Courses & Tee Times
Georgia golf and Bobby Jones go back to the start. The Georgia State Golf Association was founded in 1916 with 15 member clubs, and a 14-year-old Jones won its first Georgia Amateur at Capital City Club in Brookhaven. The GSGA now counts more than 110,000 golfers. Since late 2020 its offices, along with the Georgia section of the PGA of America and the Georgia Golf Hall of Fame, have sat at the Bobby Jones Golf Course in Atlanta. The state has owned that course since 2016.

Who runs public golf in Georgia
Georgia State Parks runs eight courses, from Arrowhead Pointe at Richard B. Russell in the northeast to The Lakes at Laura S. Walker in the south. The Greens Pass is an annual discount card sold in every state park pro shop: $200 for juniors, $625 for seniors, $750 for individuals and $1,200 for a family of up to four. Cart fees still apply. Five courses don't take it during Masters Week: Arrowhead Pointe, Georgia Veterans, Highland Walk, The Creek and Little Ocmulgee. For juniors, the GSGA runs Youth on Course Georgia. Members play participating courses for $5, and GSGA Junior Tour members are enrolled automatically. The program had over 7,000 members and subsidized more than 41,000 rounds in 2025.
Public courses worth knowing in Georgia
- Bobby Jones Golf Course: Atlanta course named for Jones, now state-owned. Bob Cupp redid it as a reversible nine with double greens, and it houses the GSGA and the Georgia Golf Hall of Fame.
- The Creek Golf Course at Hard Labor State Park: State park course, par 72 and 6,612 yards. Golf Digest's Frugal Golfer named it the fourth sweetest deal in the country in 2010.
- Chastain Park Golf Course: As North Fulton, it hosted Atlanta's first legally integrated round in December 1955, after the Supreme Court ruled in Holmes v. City of Atlanta.

Getting a tee time in Georgia
Spring and fall are peak season in Georgia. In summer the heat pushes everyone toward early morning, so the first few hours of the day fill before anything else.
Each course releases its tee times on its own schedule, commonly a week or two out, with residents of town and county courses often booking first. Leagues, outings and members claim chunks of the sheet in advance, and whatever prime weekend times are left tend to go on release day.
A full tee sheet rarely stays full. Many courses let you cancel without a fee up to 24 or 48 hours before your time, so spots tend to reappear in the last couple of days. A bad forecast shakes more loose, and a foursome that drops to three opens a single. None of it is announced. The time just shows up again on the booking page, and whoever looks first gets it.
