About Waterlefe Golf and River Club
Waterlefe is a semi-private club inside a gated riverfront community of 617 homes in Bradenton, and the golf is the reason to go. Ted McAnlis designed the par 72 on 172 acres along the Manatee River. The round starts on the river, comes back to it and finishes there, and five holes border the water, with wide marshes and coves between.
Before it opened, McAnlis warned that from the tips it would be "a real tiger" and pointed to the 9th, a 230-yard par 3 that's marsh from tee to green. He also said not to be surprised if manatees come up for air by the 15th tee. The yardage runs from about 4,800 to 6,900, so there's a sensible set for most games.
It has hosted U.S. Open qualifying eight times, and Golf Advisor put it among its Top 25 Golf Courses in Florida in 2014. After the round, the River Club's dining room looks out over the river.
