Wine Country & North Coast Golf Courses & Tee Times

Golf in Wine Country and up the North Coast is a mix of public courses around Santa Rosa, old small-town layouts and two seaside links on the Sonoma coast. Healdsburg's Tayman Park calls itself the area's oldest course and says Alister MacKenzie reportedly had a hand in it, and Ukiah's course has been open since 1931. Out on the coast, Bodega Harbour and Sea Ranch play through wind and ocean views, both built in the 1970s and finished later.

Good weekend tee times in Wine Country & North Coast go fast, and the ones that come back later (cancellations, groups that shrink) aren't announced. Yoink watches the tee sheets at 12 public courses here, from Healdsburg, Monte Rio, Ukaih and Windsor, and tells you the moment a time you want opens up.

The longest layout here is Foxtail Golf Club North at 7,030 yards; there is one executive or par-3 course for a quicker round.

Who runs public golf in Wine Country & North Coast

Santa Rosa's Bennett Valley opened in 1969 at the base of Bennett Peak, a par 72 of about 6,500 yards with Matanzas Creek running through it, and its rate sheet has separate resident and non-resident prices. In 2021 residents and golfers pushed back when the city looked at the 175-acre property's redevelopment potential. Rohnert Park calls Foxtail Golf Club, with its two 18-hole courses, its very own. The Northern California Golf Association, whose roots go back to 1901, covers the region, and its foundation started Youth on Course in 2006.

Why tee times in Wine Country & North Coast are hard to get

Golf in Wine Country & North Coast is played all year. That means there's no off-season lull to wait for: weekend mornings are busy twelve months a year.

Most public courses open their tee sheet a set number of days ahead, often 7 to 14, and many municipal courses give residents or card holders an earlier window. The best weekend-morning times usually go the day they're released. Leagues and outings take blocks of the sheet before the public ever sees them.

When tee time cancellations happen

Booked-up doesn't mean gone. Plans change: groups cancel ahead of the course's cancellation deadline (often 24 to 48 hours out), players drop when the forecast turns, and a group that shrinks leaves an open spot. Those times quietly come back on the booking page, usually for minutes, not hours.

Doing it by hand? Here's what works.

  1. Know the booking window. Find out how many days ahead each course releases times, and whether residents get an earlier window. Be ready the morning it opens.
  2. Look again 24 to 48 hours out. That's when most cancellation deadlines pass and spots come back.
  3. Be flexible on group size. Singles and twosomes fit into gaps a foursome can't.
  4. Try twilight and weekday afternoons. They're the last to fill and often cheaper.
  5. Keep a quicker course in your back pocket. Nine-hole and executive courses are easier to get on and play faster. Around here that includes The Club at Sugarloaf.
