Randolph Golf Course - North

A 1925 city course grassed by Billy Bell in 1936, where the Tucson Open and the LPGA both played. Annika Sorenstam clinched her Hall of Fame spot here.

About Randolph Golf Course - North

Randolph North is the older, longer course at the city's Randolph Golf Complex in midtown: a par 72 that runs 6,883 yards from the Blues (71.7 rating, 126 slope), down to 5,372 from the Reds. It's parkland golf in the desert, with tall trees, long fairways and the mountains around Tucson in view. The map survey counts water on 5 holes and trees along 15, with 11 doglegs split fairly evenly left and right and only about 30 bunkers, so it's more about length and angles than sand. The history is long. Railroad man Epes Randolph left the land to the city on the condition it be used for parks and recreation. The course opened in 1925 with sand fairways and sand-and-cottonseed greens, all sprayed with oil so the wind wouldn't carry them off. Billy Bell redesigned and grassed it in 1936 with New Deal labor, sleeping on the clubhouse floor during the project, and the new course opened on October 31, 1936.

Few munis have hosted this much tour golf. Randolph North was the site of the PGA Tour's Joe Garagiola Tucson Open and Seiko Tucson Match Play and the LPGA's PING/Welch's Championship, and in 2000 Annika Sorenstam earned her final Hall of Fame point here.
