Dell Urich Golf Course

The 1996 rebuild of old Randolph South, par 70, named for the pro who shaped clay models of its greens by hand. Once home to Tucson's LPGA stop.

About Dell Urich Golf Course

Dell Urich is the younger half of the 36-hole Randolph complex in midtown Tucson, the course that replaced Randolph South after a complete redesign in 1996. It's a par 70 of 6,629 yards from the blue tees, with four sets of tees down to 5,257 and combo sets in between. It's parkland golf in the desert city: mature trees, generous fairways and bunkering, and mountain views. It's the former home of Tucson's LPGA Tour stop.

The map survey fills in the texture. Water comes into play on five holes, with three forced carries, there are about 30 bunkers, 15 holes are tree-lined, and 11 holes bend, six to the left and five to the right. It rewards shaping it both ways more than raw length. Course character from OpenStreetMap contributors' survey data.

The name belongs to the man the Pima County Sports Hall of Fame calls Mr. Golf for generations of Tucsonans. He was Randolph's first head pro for four decades, planted many of Randolph North's trees himself, and made clay models of the South course greens by hand. He liked to recall the early days, when he had to chase cattle off greens made of oil and sand over cottonseed. He died in January 1995, the year before the rebuilt course opened under his name.

It's one of 27 courses Yoink watches in the Tucson area, and Randolph Golf Course - North is practically next door — handy when your first choice is booked solid.
